What to Expect During Your Hardwood Flooring Project
Most hardwood flooring projects start with an assessment of your existing subfloor and, if applicable, your current flooring — determining whether existing floors can be refinished or whether new material needs to be installed. For new installation, that means acclimating the wood to your home's humidity for several days, installing the flooring, and sanding and finishing on-site for solid hardwood, or simply installing pre-finished boards for most engineered options. Refinishing involves sanding down to bare wood, repairing any damaged boards, and applying new stain and finish coats. Most projects take anywhere from a few days for a single-room refinish to two to three weeks for a full-home installation.
Oak remains the most popular species on Long Island because of its durability and the wide range of stain colors it accepts well, though we also install maple, hickory, walnut, and engineered options depending on the room and budget.
