Custom Built-Ins & Closets on Long Island
Off-the-shelf storage never quite fits the space you actually have. Old Town Renovations designs and builds custom shelving, closets, and cabinetry to fit your exact dimensions — no flat-pack shortcuts, no awkward gaps.
From a floor-to-ceiling home library to a mudroom bench with built-in cubbies, every piece is built on-site or in our shop to match your home's trim, paint, and proportions. It's furniture-grade joinery, designed to function as hard-working storage.

What to Expect During Your Built-In Project
Every built-in project starts with a design conversation about how you actually want to use the space — storage capacity, display versus concealed shelving, and how the piece should integrate with existing trim, paint, and flooring. From there we finalize measurements, build or source the components, and install everything on-site, finishing with trim, paint or stain, and any hardware. Most built-in projects take 1 to 3 weeks from design approval to installation, depending on size and complexity.
Plywood construction with hardwood face frames is our standard approach for built-ins because it resists warping better than solid wood panels while still taking paint or stain beautifully. For shelving that will carry real weight, especially books, we build in additional structural support that isn't always obvious from the outside but prevents sagging over the life of the piece.
The difference between a custom built-in and a manufactured unit pushed against a wall is fit: our built-ins are scribed to your walls, ceiling, and floor, so there are no gaps or shims visible at the edges. We also match trim profiles and paint colors to the rest of the room, so a built-in reads as part of the house's original architecture rather than furniture that was added later.
We build everything to function as hard-working storage first — drawers that actually hold weight, shelving that's adjustable where it makes sense, and doors and hardware chosen for daily use, not just for how they look on installation day.
Why Choose Old Town Renovations
We've been doing finish carpentry and full home renovations across Nassau & Suffolk Counties for over 20 years. Every project gets a free, no-obligation estimate, a clear itemized quote, and craftsmen who treat your home with the same care they'd give their own. We're licensed, insured, and proud of the work that's still standing decades later. Because built-ins are one of our most requested projects, it's also an area where our crew has developed a real eye for proportion and detail — knowing instinctively how deep a shelf needs to be for the books you actually own, or how a bench should be scaled to the room around it.
